The makers of 2.0 revealed important updates at the press conference of the film in Burj Al Arab, Dubai. Held as a prelude to the spectacular audio launch, which is scheduled to happen in Burj Park tomorrow evening, the interaction featured the film's top-billed cast and crew including Superstar Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar, director Shankar, A.R. Rahman, Amy Jackson and Subaskaran Allirajah, chairman of Lyca Productions, in full attendance.
"2.0 is not an extended version of 'Enthiran"
Director Shankar said 2.0 is not an extension of Enthiran, putting an end to rumours that the film will be a sequel to Enthiran.
"2.0 has a new format, a unique premise and a new message. The film has made in international standards. It will not look like an ordinary Indian action movie. It's a socio-fantasy, sci-fi actioner," he said.
Shankar said they decided to make the film in native 3D format since the script demanded it. "3D makes the movie-watching experience very exciting. And the movie required the 3D technology. It's not a technological gimmick to invite audiences. After experiencing 2.0 in 3D, Indian viewers would like to watch more 3D films in theatres in future."

Shankar said he waited for almost a year to arrive at the core plot of 2.0. "It's entirely new, but we have all the familiar characters from Enthiran. Although we have made in Hollywood format, 2.0 is not a copy of any Hollywood movie."
Asked about why Arnold Schwarzenegger turned down the offer to play the villain role, Shankar explained, "Although we have made the film on an international scale, the message is local. Anyone from the nook and corner of the globe will be able to connect with it. So, we approached Arnold, and we had extensive negotiations with his team. But, things didn't materialise as we expected and there were some difficulties in signing the contract. Then we approached Akshay, and he was very excited to come on board."
"Akshay Kumar is not just an antagonist in the film. There's a lot of shades to his character. He has performed very well, and you can see a very different Akshay Kumar in the film," said Shankar.
2.0 is going to be India's most prestigious film, says Rajinikanth
Rajinikanth, who answered only a handful of questions during the interaction, said 2.0 would be a prestigious Indian film.
"It is going to be India's most prestigious film. It will not only attract Indian audiences but will also equally appeal to all overseas film buffs," said Rajinikanth.
Asked about his down-to-earth off-screen persona, Rajinikanth said, "I don't want to act off-screen because no one is paying me off-screen (smiles)."
Rajinikanth has guts, and he wholly believes in his instincts, says Akshay Kumar
Akshay Kumar, who plays the role of Dr. Richard in the film, said playing an anti-hero was a very different experience.
"Shankar's not a director but a scientist. It's unbelievable what he wants to say through his movie. Because of my contract, I can't reveal much. Otherwise, I'd love to tell you guys more. If I disclose anything, they will cut my remuneration (smiles)," said Akshay Kumar.
Talking about his preparation for the character, Akshay Kumar said, "I just learnt my lines and performed. I didn't do any specific training. Shankar had done so much of homework, and he had already got into the skin of my character before me. So, I just had to enter into his vision and perform my role. It took me about three and a half hours to apply makeup and one and a half hours to remove the same."
